At Priva Counselling, I offer integrative, evidence-based counselling that brings together the most effective elements of several therapeutic approaches rather than locking every person into a single method that may not fit them.The core of my work draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) one of the most widely researched approaches in psychology. CBT helps you understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. If you find yourself caught in cycles of "what ifs", harsh self-criticism, or patterns that keep repeating no matter how hard you try to break them, CBT offers practical tools to interrupt those cycles and build steadier, more balanced responses over time.Alongside CBT, I bring in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is less about challenging thoughts and more about learning to hold them differently so your life is guided by what genuinely matters to you,rather than what fear or self-doubt is telling you. DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) tools also feature in my work, particularly for managing intense emotions and building distress tolerance.I'm also a trained Somatic Practitioner, which means I work with the body as well as the mind. Many people carry stress, grief, or trauma not just in their thoughts but in physical sensations tension, numbness, a persistent heaviness. Somatic practices, nervous system regulation, breathwork, and mindfulness help address this layer of experience, which talk therapy alone sometimes doesn't fully reach.All of this is grounded in a strengths-based, compassion-focused lens because real change rarely comes from criticising yourself into growth. It comes from understanding yourself more clearly and building on what's already there.

Integrative therapy means I don't follow a rigid single-model approach. Instead, I draw from a range of evidence-based psychological frameworks adapting what I use based on what each person actually needs.In practice, this might mean one person benefits most from the structured thought-work in CBT, while another needs a more body-oriented, somatic approach because their distress lives in their nervous system more than in conscious thinking.Someone navigating grief might need a gentle, process-led space above all else.What integrative therapy it isn't random or unstructured. Every approach I use is grounded in training, research, and a clear therapeutic rationale. It simply means I treat you as an individual with a specific history and specific needs, not as a diagnostic category that gets the same intervention as the last person.At Priva Counselling, the integrative framework typically includes person-centred therapy as the relational foundation, supported by tools from CBT, ACT, somatic practices, and mindfulness adjusted to your pace and what you're working through.

Yes trauma-informed care is at the centre of how I work, not an add-on.Being trauma-informed means I understand that many of the patterns people bring to therapy anxiety, relationship difficulties, emotional numbness, self-criticism may be rooted in earlier experiences that left a lasting imprint on the nervous system. A trauma-informed approach never pushes you to relive or process difficult experiences before you feel safe enough to do so.In practical terms, this means sessions move at your pace. We work within a window of tolerance a concept from trauma psychology that describes the zone in which you can process difficult material without feeling overwhelmed or shut down. If something feels too much, we slow down. If you need to stay surface-level for a while, that's entirely okay.I hold a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) qualification, which represents advanced training in trauma treatment. I've also completed specialist training in grief counselling and somatic practices both of which are deeply connected to how trauma lives in the body as well as the mind.
